HBO’s ‘Succession’ Leads 75th Emmy Awards Race: Everything You Need to Know!

The feverish anticipation for the 75th Emmy Awards nominations reached fever pitch this Wednesday, and boy, have we got some juicy highlights for you!

HBO’s “Succession” dominated the Emmy battlefield with a whopping 27 nominations, asserting its royal presence yet again.

  • HBO’s strategic array of productions, including “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” “Barry,” and “House of the Dragon” to name a few, contributed to HBO’s treasury, bringing the network’s total nominations to an epic 127! HBO truly is home to the titans of the small screen!
  • “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus” stand as worthy contenders alongside “Succession” on the drama side for HBO.
  • On the comedy front, Apple TV+’s knight, “Ted Lasso,” leads the jesters with 21 nominations
  • Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and FX’s “The Bear” are right on its heels
  • Both “Beef” and “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” received 13 nominations each, making a mark for Netflix

Speaking of streaming giants, let’s talk numbers.

  1. HBO’s crown was closely followed by Netflix, which earned 103 nominations.
  2. While HBO held the drama categories hostage, Netflix won favour in the limited series categories.
  3. Apple bagged the third position with 54 nominations
  4. This was followed by Hulu with 42, Amazon Prime Video with 41, and FX with 37.

The Emmy game isn’t complete without mentioning Amazon’s Freevee, which was nominated for four awards thanks to “Jury Duty.”

With Amazon-owned MGM’s 23 nominations, Amazon’s combined count as a mega-corporation comes to 68 nominations, placing it firmly in third place.

This Emmy race saw the live virtual announcement of the nominees for the top 12 categories by Emmy-nominated actor Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy Chair Frank Scherma.

Hold onto your hats because we’re about to drop some Emmy déjà vu. Last year, HBO’s “Succession” led the nominations, too, with Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” following close behind. Both series have won the highest honours twice and might do a victory lap this year.

Here’s a sizzling tidbit: Pedro Pascal and Jenna Ortega made history as the first Latinos to land Lead Acting Emmy Nominations in Drama and Comedy Series since 2008!

There’s a potential twist in this Emmy tale, though. The ceremony may face its first delay since 2001 due to unresolved SAG-AFTRA negotiations, which could lead to a strike by SAG members and WGA. If that happens, the Emmys could be delayed, mirroring the 2001 ceremony that was postponed due to the aftermath of Sept. 11 and the start of the War in Afghanistan.

But don’t fret just yet, tune in to the 75th annual ceremony on Sept. 18!

While you wait with bated breath for the ceremony, take a look at the main nominations we’ve listed below.
